Back from Seattle

So I made it home after a long and nice week in Washington.

Can’t tell you much about the sessions, except that they were awesome, but it wass really nice to finaly see the Seattle area. My first impressions when sitting in the taxi from the airport was… Hey, I’m back in Norway, except its Autumn/Spring! It was raining and foggy, but quite warm. But once we started to see the skyscrapers over the hilltops, that Norwegian impression dissapared and I was back to "I’M IN THE STATES, Coool!" mood.

Anyway, the rain dissapared pretty fast, and once we had packed out at the hotel and went for lunch it was already getting better.
Lunch was good( Burger and seafood tacos), and I met a few of the other Norwegian MVP’s which was really nice.

The first day was all about fighting the jet-lag. We woke up at 0445 at Einar I. place in Snadefjord before taking the flight earlier the same day, 15 hours ago, and it was still lunch time so we had a pretty bad fight. Had to stay awake in order to nor ruin the rest of the week, so we grabed a few beers, checked out Bellevue and hit the bar in the evening.. The bar was a pretty interesting place. Kind of driking beer when sleeping, eyes hanging down on the table and the waitress asking if we are having a good time.. Well, we did as we probably was halfway in Bellevue and halfway in the dreamworld.

Anyway, went back to sleep and got about 6hours of sleep before waking up at 0600 local time, being more awake than ever.. wierd thing 😛
We had a pretty health breakfast like we always do in the states..

….met the other guys, and went to the University District, where the University of Washington was.

We was really supposed to go directly to Seattle downtown, but as the busses in the Seattle area basically isn’t going in the weekends, we had to take a detour, but we ended up spending almost the entire day there! Einar had looked up an apple store in the district, so we went to see if we could find it. Ended up going shopping, and got ourselves a nice and cheap Sony HD Video camera! 🙂

So, after surviving the University, we found a bus to Seattle Downtown( after a long search/walk ) and got some fast food for lunch/dinner and checking out the market, space needle and science center! ( I’ll add some more pictures later ).

The following week was all about the MVP Summit, sessions and social activities with MVPs across the globe. Most of the sessions took place at the Microsoft Campus at Redmond, and in Hyatt hotel in Bellevue. Funny to finally see the campus at Redmond, the shuttle connect busses and how big everything really was.

All in all, we sure had the weather on our side, and the week went great! 🙂

MVP Summit day 1

So, been in Seattle a few days now, been chilling in the "summer" weather! 🙂 Went to see Bellevue, University of Washington and Seattle downtown. Most of the time have gone to eating burgers.

Registered for the Summit today, got my goodie-bag and went to a few sessions before going training in the gym and swimming in the pool, and now waiting for a dinner with Avanade later tonight! 🙂

Anyway, can’t say too much on whats going on in the sessions but we sure are having a good time and it’s nice to put a face on all the names you read every day 🙂

Updates!

Due to really busy days at work and traveling, I haven’t been able to answer all the mails I’d wish to answer.

I’m now going through all received mails and answering those I can. As there are a lot of mails, this will take some time but I will try to answer all of you!
My time is finally getting stable, so I will get more time doing this.

I know I haven’t been blogging too much lately( still, because of too little time ), but that doesn’t meant I haven’t been able to work with XNA. A tutorial will soon be published, my tutorials are in a process of being translated to many other languages and the XNA Shader Programming Guide will soon be published.

A new Game Camp evening is also being planned for those of you whom are interested in this. This time, we will focus on getting beginners up and running with XNA 🙂

Game Camp will also be at The Gathering 2010, where we will talk about XNA. So, be sure to join the Game Dev compo at TG2010 this year, and let us help you with your contribution. An IRC channel will be set up where you can join and get direct help from many experienced developers, and people who make music, 3d models, textures and so on. I will also be on this channel so you can come here and get instant help with your XNA/programming related issues 🙂

Anyhow, I will be at the MVP Summit in Seattle from 13th to 21st. My plans will have a kick-start after that, so be sure to check back after that.

And to those of you who will be the MVP Summit, see you there!! 🙂

The Gathering 2010: Submerged

Once again, The Gathering is getting close!

For all of you who are interested in going, there are still a few tickets left for the creative minds. This year’s schedule is going to be kick ass so I really recommend you who are in Norway around Easter to check out this page:

Dark Codex is going 😉

"The Gathering has its roots in the creative culture known as the demoscene, where computers are used as tools to create music, graphics and – of course – demos. Every year we hold different competitions for our creative contestants. New competitions have come and gone over the years, while others have been held in one way or another every year since the first TG in 1992. If you like making cool stuff on your computer, it’s likely that we have something on our schedule that’s perfect for you. If that is the case, we really think you should come to TG to enter the competitions.

If you buy a Creative Ticket for TG, you’ll be seated in a special area reserved for the purpose of getting our creative partygoers together for the exchange of ideas and knowledge, get new friends with common interests, and maybe even get together with someone to create something new and exciting. We will hold seminars on several subjects, for both beginners and intermediates, in the Creative Lounge. Last year we had a workshop area with seminars, helpful mentors and computers available for testing out new software and techniques. With this year’s Creative Lounge, this workshop area will joined with the demoscene area from previous parties, hopefully making for an educational and social experience. While the demoscene may at first glance might seem like some closed society, you can rest assured that we always have room for more creative computer people. If one party a year isn’t enough for you, this is an opportunity to pick up tips on other parties for creative people, and maybe meet new friends to go there with. And who knows, the Creativia crew might even have a few other surprises up our sleeves?"

Getting stable again

Finally, my time is starting to get stable. I’m used to traveling every week now, and both the projects I’m on is beginning to get over the "startup period". This means I will get a bit more time and be able to create some tutorials and make some updates to this blog again.

I also have used a lot of time writing a long article for a magazine about XNA Shader Programming. More info about this will be written later, but the article is finished and is in the publishing process. Quite cool! 🙂

Anyway, the book "3D Game Development with Microsoft Silverlight 3: Beginner’s Guide"( using Balder 😉 ), by Gastón C. Hillar, is published and can be found here. The book contains a lot of samples, witch can be downloaded from here.
I got a copy of the book myself and have read a lot of it and it’s really great. A good read, clear, good examples and very easy to follow. If you are in to Silverlight and want to look at the Silverlight world from a 3D perspective, I would recommend this book.
